Me (to coworkers):  Anyone ever grown squash?

LSM:  Why would anyone want to do that?

Me:  I saved some seeds from a spaghetti squash earlier this year.  My mom planted them and one came up.  So I checked on it a few times, the leaves got really big and there were flowers.  And then we checked today and there's fruit.

Only they look like small zucchini.

Not being sure what baby spaghetti squash should look like, I thought maybe it was kinda like oranges.  I heard that if you plant a citrus seed, you can end up with a completely different fruit than you started with.  Like a lemon instead of an orange.

LSM:  Really!

Me:  Yeah.  Small gene pool or something ...

LSM:  Similarly, I heard recently that margarine is only one molecule away from plastic.
